Construction Apprentices Compete at ABC of Wisconsin Skill Competition!

36 hopeful construction apprentices from locations throughout the state demonstrated their knowledge and craft skills at the 2011 ABC of Wisconsin Skill Competition held January 28^th at the KI Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin.  The competitors in five different trades started with a written exam.  By late morning, they received a safety orientation.

By noon, the practical portion of the day was well underway with sights and sounds of construction in the air as carpentry, sheet metal, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical apprentices worked on project related to their trade under the close watch of spectators and judges.

The competitors were rated on skill, workmanship, safety, and efficiency.  The written, safety, and practical scores were then combined to determine the top three competitors in each trade.  First place winners will go on to compete at the ABC National Craft Championships at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas, from April 13-15^th,  2011.

Skill Competition Results:

Plumbing

1^st place: Jon Moser, Rozga Plumbing & Heating Corp, West Allis. WCTC and MATC-Madison

2^nd place: Alan Strong, Dave Jones Plumbing, Heating, & Fire Protection, Madison.  MATC

3^rd place: Trenton Gericke, Zimmerman Plumbing, Inc., Portage. MATC, Madison

Carpentry

1^st place: Doug Kennedy, Joe Daniels Construction Co., Madison.  MATC (Placed 3^rd at Nationals!)
